The people behind Builders Patch

We are determined to move the needle on creating more affordable housing and communities in our cities. With our combined experience in housing development, housing finance, and real estate tech products, we understand the nuances and processes as well as the problems on all sides of each transaction. We want to help developers and financial institutions build more housing faster by creating an efficient, transparent, and supportive financial ecosystem for multifamily housing development.

Kanan Ajmera
Founder & CEO
Kanan is passionate about bringing big ideas to the housing industry. She founded Builders Patch to bring efficiency, and accessible technology to housing developers, and to revolutionize affordable housing finance. Kanan is an experienced real estate professional who has worked with top tier banks and firms such as Citibank, PNC and The Richman Group to structure and finance affordable housing projects.

Kanan is a trained architect and urban designer with several years of experience in designing multi-family housing developments. She worked at POKO Partners, a socially responsible development firm that created high-quality energy-efficient affordable housing communities. As part of this organization, she worked to rehabilitate and adapt defunct buildings to new uses. There is nothing more fulfilling to her than breathing new life into an old landmark and community!

Kanan holds a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and has a B.Arch. from the University of Mumbai. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, Chair of the ULI Sustainability Taskforce in Westchester-Fairfield. She lives in the village of Chappaqua, New York, with her husband, 6-year-old twin boys, and an inordinate number of books, magnetic tiles, building sticks and blocks.

Uma Pandit is an experienced product leader building and leading cross-functional development, product, and design teams. Her passion is developing great customer experiences with simple and beautiful products. Her specialties are crafting product strategy, building and scaling teams and user research. She previously led growth teams (scaling traffic as well as conversion rates) at PayScale and Care.com. ‍ She holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering from Michigan State University and has a B.E. from the University of Mumbai. Uma started her career as a software developer writing in-house applications at Intertek Testing Inc. and Mercer HR Consulting. Her previous entrepreneurial ventures include creating iPad apps for kids in the very early days of the App Store where they were voted as “Apps of the week” and had more than 100,000 downloads. She also co-founded Get Suppr, a personal chef and consumer platform that delivered more than 8,000 meals to over 100 consumers in the greater Seattle area. ‍ She lives in Seattle with her husband and two daughters and loves to hand-build functional pottery.
